Undergraduate student funding

Undergraduate student funding

Student funding is a complex subject area. Your  own personal circumstances and the type of course you are doing   determine  the amount of money you are entitled to, where you need to apply for funding and whether you will get a grant and/or loan.  Some students are entitled to university bursaries.

There are many very useful web sites that provide a comprehensive guide to what funding is available from whom and how to apply.  You can also download leaflets from these web sites.

If you are continuing your course next year, make sure that you apply for student funding in time, otherwise your first student loan payments for 2011/12 will be paid late and you may face financial problems.

You will be able to apply for continuing funding for 2011/12  from 14 February - 30 June 2011 - please refer to Directgov guidance for details. If you apply after 30 June, your funding may not be assessed and paid in time for the start of the 2011/12 academic year.

If you are due to start a course in 2011, you will be able to apply from 16 March -31 May 2011.

ACCESS TO LEARNING FUND

It is very likely that your student support will not be enough to cover your essential living costs, so you may need to consider income from other sources such as part time work and the Access to Learning Fund. You can download an application form and get more information or get one from the Financial Aid Office in the Registry, or from the Student Advice Centre.
To make an application you will need an appointment with a Student Adviser, who will go through the completed form with you and submit your application to the Financial Aid Office. You must also provide evidence to support your application.

Deadlines for ALF applications 2010/11

Term 2 – 5th April 2011

Term 3 – 14th June 2011

As you must have had an interview with an Adviser before your application can be submitted, it is advisable to ensure that your interview is arranged at least 48 hours prior to these dates, in order that all the necessary documents can be submitted. The Financial Aid Office will not accept incomplete applications.

THE SOONER YOU APPLY, THE BETTER
