Music Society
The Music Society exists to help every student who wishes to start or continue their experience of making music regardless of whether they have been involved in groups before or not. This includes the opportunity to sing in the University Chorus, Chamber Choir and Sing!, or playing in the Concert Band, Big Band or University Symphony Orchestra throughout various rehearsals during the week, eventually showcasing them in concerts throughout the year. The society also helps soloists and those who wish to form their own groups to find like-minded musicians, providing access to rehearsal spaces around campus and providing performance opportunities around campus and the local area throughout the academic year. The Music Society also informs all members of different types of concerts being held on campus and the local area by student and professional groups. The Music Society also provides a major social function, including regular socials throughout the year in order to bring together those like-minded people who they may or may not meet normally at rehearsals in a more informal atmosphere!
Meetings are held regularly throughout the week depending on different groups, as well as any other time arranged by informal groups. Committee meetings are held at least twice per term, including extra meetings before major concerts to sort out arrangements with the Director of Music. These are generally held (due to size) in Eliot dining hall or Rutherford music room.
