Tai Chi Society
Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art which has been taught in its various forms in China for hundreds of years. The society aims to teach students the long Yang style form, which can be learnt over all three years of the students' university career. Unlike traditional martial arts Tai Chi relies on slow movements and harmony between both body and mind. It is thus suitable for anyone to learn, and is enjoyed accross the world as much for its benefits to health and meditation as for its martial aspects. The Society aims to teach Tai Chi in a social and relaxed atmosphere, with a slow byt constant development towards completing the entire 108 step form. The society also holds Social events each term in which often involve watching Tai Chi related films or having a relaxed meal in Canterbury. These events are fun for everyone and allow the members to get to know eachother better in a different environment.
The society meets twice a week, on Mondays from 6-8pm in Eliot dining hall, and on Tuesdays from 2-3pm in the Dance Studio in the Sports Hall. Anyone is welcome to attend either session, and it is never too late to start! Tai Chi is suitable for those of all ages and of any physical ability.
