Kent Pole Fitness Society
Pole Fitness
The Pole Fitness Society at Kent is a society that has managed to challenge many stereotypes of what we are about.  Pole fitness is a new and fun way of getting fit and we try to promote a healthy lifestyle within the society.  Pole Fitness is suitable for anyone of any shape or size or level of fitness.  As classes progress you will begin to feel the difference in the tone of your body and will discover muscles you never knew existed! It is much harder exercise than people imagine it to be and an hour of pole dancing can burn more calories than a one hour's gym session
Clothing
When coming to classes we would ask that you wear basic cotton type shorts and a vest top (if you do feel uncomfortable in shorts to begin with, tracksuit bottoms will be fine for the first few sessions).  However, as moves become more advanced you will struggle to progress, as the legs need to be bare in order to grip the pole better during certain moves.
Classes
This year, due to the popularity of classes last year, we will be running different levels of classes: Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced on Monday evenings, Wednesday afternoons and Saturday daytimes. The classes consist of a light warm up and stretch, followed by an hour's workout on the pole, doing not only tricks and spins on the pole but also floor work and dancing in between.  This year we are also hoping to try and incorporate some gymnastics and different forms of dance into the lessons and hold workshops with other societies to build on fitness, flexibility and friendships.
General
When beginning Pole Fitness do be prepared for a certain amount of aches and pains, bruises are inevitable when u first begin however they tend to lessen the more your body becomes accustomed to it.
Lastly, just remember that Pole Fitness is about fun and is a great way of meeting new people and forming strong friendship bonds, our infamous pole socials make sure that everyone is comfortable around each other and there is no bad feeling between any of the society members.  We hope to see you in classes soon.
