Philosophy Society
The Philosophy Society runs regular meetings on Thursdays at 6pm, each week having a discussion on a different topic. These meetings are intended to be accessible to all - Philosophy students (from first year to post grad.) and non-philosophy students. Sometimes we have guest speakers and/or screenings to accompany the discussion. In addition to these, we usually run a Reading Group on Sundays at 2pm. These are designed for members who want a more academic discussion, focussing on a specific text and a specific philosopher. These meetings usually have smaller numbers, and are less formal, meeting in a local coffee chop. The society aims to be as democratic as possible; if there are any topics that you think would be a good Thursday discussion, then you are more than welcome to lead one (and if you do not wish to lead, we may well have someone who would be willing to lead it for you). Furthermore, we are trying to actively support the Philosophy students at UKC, specifically first year students. If there are any issues or topics that you feel you are unclear about, we will hopefully be able to help; we are going to hold special meetings in the normal Thursday slots in weeks 6, 12, 18 and 24 in which we can discuss any problems you are having.
Our meetings are on:
  • Thursdays, 6pm Darwin Seminar Room 1
  • Sundays, 2pm, Location Varies
