Additional Awards

There are numerous awards available for students involved within Volunteering, in addition to the KSCV certificate scheme, the majority of which reward those students who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.  In most cases, the Volunteering staff will nominate those students they feel have shown the commitment and desire needed for a particular award, however, there are some awards available where students can nominate themselves, or their peers.

Activities Awards Evening
This Oscar style glitz and glamour evening happens in either the second or third term every year.  It recognises students who have gone above and beyond in a specific area of students activities, including Societies, Campaigns, JCC's, Media, Course Reps and Volunteering.  Previous winners have included the Clothes and Can drive project.
The winners all get a very smart engraved plaque!

The criteria for the Volunteering award can be found here

The winner of the Volunteer Project of the Year award 2007-8 was the RAG Snow Ball.

Special Volunteer Awards

Four Special Volunteer Awards are given out in the May KSCV Award ceremony every year.  These awards recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of volunteering.  There are no criteria for these awards, and individual achievement varies from person to person, however we do require people to write a brief statement (of no more than 750 words) detailing why they feel someone should receive the award.

Winners all get an engraved glass plaque.

Staff and students can nominate individuals for the Special Volunteer Awards, and the Volunteering Co-Ordinators make the decision on whom should receive the award.

HEFCE Awards
Every year Kent Union Volunteering nominates groups and individuals for this nationally recognised volunteering award.  Competition is stiff, and there are rigid criteria to be adhered to.  Previous nominees from Kent Union have included individuals involved with the Rainer Mentoring Scheme, individuals who have set up the Clothes and Cans Drive, the Three Peaks Charity Team, and people involved with the Student Ambassador Scheme and Student Tutoring.  The HEFCE Awards Board decide on whom the eventual winners of each award will be from all applicants from all Universities across England.
Winners normally get a certificate and some vouchers, and all accepted nominees also receive certificates.

This is an extremely prestigious award, so if you would like to be considered for nomination for your work, please speak to a member of the volunteering staff.

Student Volunteering England Gold Awards
These awards are the only nationally recognised awards where students' achievements are recognised and rewarded by their peers, and as such are a prestigious mark of excellence in volunteering achievement.  The awards judge people in three catagories - dedication, achievement and leadership.
Winners receive certificates and gift voucerhs

The Student Volunteering England Gold Awards open in March and take place in May.  Kent Union staff nominate individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of volunteering duty.  Previous nominees have included the editors of the student magazine / newspaper.  The Volunteering Committee decides on whom the eventual recipiants of the awards should be, and they are presented with their awards at the KSCV May Awards Night.  They judge people in three catagories - dedication, achievement and leadership.

Lord Mayor's Awards

The Lord Mayor's Awards recognise those individuals who have made a difference to the local community in the Canterbury region.  Anybody can nominate an individual for a Lord Mayor's Award, and the Volunteering Staff nominate the students that they feel fulfill this criteria.  Previous nominees have included students who work in Rainbows, St Martins Hospital, Rainer Mentoring, and the Scrine Foundation.

Kent Volunteers Awards for Volunteering Excellence

The Kent Volunteers Awards for Volunteering Excellence occur in June and include a number of different awards, from Environment Agency to Sports Development, Pfizer Awards to the Saga Awards, Kent County Council Awards to the Children's Mutual Awards, the Marlowe Theatre Awards and the Queens Awards.

The Volunteering staff put students forward for these awards.
