Coming soon - International Student Awards (Shine! 2009)

The International Student Awards (Shine! 2009) is a British Council campaign which focuses on the
value of investing in a UK education as an international student, and aims to celebrate international
students’ contribution to life in the UK.  Shine! 2009 is a great opportunity for your students and your
institution to gain some public recognition.

The campaign, now in its seventh year, celebrates the achievements of international students studying
in the UK.  Over the years it has generated thousands of entries from international students studying at
UK universities, colleges of further and higher education, independent schools and English language
institutions.

Benefits

The International Student Award campaign is an excellent way of encouraging students who have
made the life-changing decision to study in the UK to record their experiences and insights, and to
celebrate their
achievements.  It also gives us, and you, access to authentic stories that can help us
to promote the UK as an educational destination.

The competition on average attracts over 2,000 students every year, representing around 130
nationalities.  Many gave inspirational accounts of their experiences and achievements while studying
in the UK.  The students enter the competition by writing a ‘letter home’, highlighting how
 their
experiences
and newly acquired skills have either enhanced their personal development, boosted
their career prospects, or helped them to achieve their ambitions.

The competition has produced many stories from students about their voluntary activities, work
placements and other non-academic activities that added value to their UK education.  The letters also
included praise for the excellent quality of teaching in the UK, and the abundance of up-to-the-minute
facilities and resources available.

Dates for your diary

The competition will be launched to students on 11 November 2008.  However, before this
we need your help to tell students all about it. In early November we will send you a booklet
providing all the information that you need to know about the campaign and details on how
you can support it.  We will give you access to promotional materials, web banners and press
releases so that supporting Shine! 2009 couldn’t be easier.

Keep an eye out for the International Student Award booklet and further e-mails which will showcase life
after ‘Shine’ for our past winners and testimonials from institutions that have benefited.
In the meantime, take a look at
