Application Form Advice

Many jobs will ask you to complete an application form rather than send a CV. This is to ensure a level of uniformity amongst all applications and aid the short-listing process (when the organisation will decide who to interview). The following advice should help you when completing a form:

Use the Person Specification and Job Description as a guide for completing the form. Try to make a relevant reference to each point.

Ensure you know exactly what you are going to write in each section before starting.

Complete the form on a computer if possible – to ensure it is neat, easy to read and free of errors. If not, use a black pen and write in capital letters where requested.

Use a continuation sheet if necessary, to include all of your relevant information

But, only include what is necessary and explain your points succinctly

Be aware of the closing date and always get the form in on time.

You can pick-up a leaflet with some more information on completing application forms at the jobshop@kent office on the Canterbury campus or by our noticeboards in the Pilkington Building, Medway.
