The President's Priority Campaign is something that I promised to do from my manifesto.
At the beginning of term during the Welcome Helper Training and the Societies and Sports Fayres I got people to answer a question...
'If you could change one thing about your University Experience, what would it be?'
The purpose of this was to find out what issues affect students most, in order to work on them this year. I will ask the same question in January in order to see if student need has changed. Of over 800 responses recieved, the top five responses were:
These five represent a vast array of need from students, but a need I feel we have to address. Our work this year is therefore focused on these 5 areas, with 4 being used in our 3 priority campaigns, and the fifth being taken care of by in our housing week after Christmas, in offering students more support in finding off-campus accommodation. We are also dealing with this through taking on the Housing Accreditation Scheme to ensure landlords and their properties meet certain criteria to be accredited, making sure there are high standards for students to live in.
Of the other 4 responses, Value for Money and Cost of Accommodation are part of the 'True Cost' Campaign which will focus on ensuring that students money goes further, whilst Exam Feedback and Society & Sports Space are themselves their own priority campaigns. As a President I feel our work this year is representative of what has been asked for. If any of you have something you would like to change then email me here
