Liberation Officers & Campaigns

What is liberation?

There are four liberation campaigns at Kent – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Campaign, Students' with Disabilities Campaign, Ethnic Minority Students’ Campaign, and the Women’s Campaign.

These are the groups of students who face discrimination in education and who are also oppressed in wider society.

This is different from a special representation campaign like ‘mature students’ or ‘international students’ because although they might be discriminated against in higher education, they are not oppressed by this, and neither are they oppressed in wider society.

The Liberation Campaigns elect committees annually who represent you on Union Council, lead campaigns to fight discrimination, represent you within the NUS Liberation Campaigns and host social activities such as film screenings or fundraisers.
