What are the Sports & Societies Stripes?

Sports and Societies Stripes are a reward and recognition scheme aimed to:

  • Outline the minimum requirements expected from student groups.
  • Help support the work of student groups to ensure they fill their potential.
  • Improve the quality of student opportunities/experience.
  • Recognise the hard work put into running student groups.
  • Develop groups to make them more sustainable in the future.
  • Assist Kent Union with the justification of the level of financial support.
The Stripes

This stripe is awarded to groups who are meeting the diverse needs of students and catering for all. The group has taken positive steps to increase membership and include as many members as possible, making special efforts to include students that don’t traditionally engage.

This stripe is awarded to groups who are well managed, organised and committed to ensuring that the group functions properly and that members receive a high quality and varied experience.

The minimal requirements expected of student groups (has to be completed before attaining any of the others)

This stripe is awarded to groups who are committed to improving their offer, ensuring that they have a well organised committee, members who are engaged in a wide range of activities and that the group looks for new ways to ensure that all members receive a great experience through developing new ideas or different events and activities.
